Reza Jafari

Architect & Artist

Reza Jafari is an architect and artist, and the principal of Reza Jafari & Associates, a studio of architecture and design working from Qom, Iran.

He founded the practice in 2010 and has led it since, working across houses, cultural and commercial buildings, interiors and objects. The office is kept deliberately small: each project is drawn, detailed and followed on site by the same people who conceived it.

His practice is multidisciplinary. Alongside the buildings he works continuously in drawing and sculpture, and the two disciplines inform one another in questions of proportion, weight and material.

Architecture Practice

The work begins with the ground: orientation, daylight, the existing wall, the neighbouring roofline. What follows is a process of removal rather than addition, so that proportion, material and light are left to carry the building.
